The Scientific Committee is composed of Academics from outside the Editorial Board whose subdomains/subfields cover, as far as possible, the disciplines and topics represented in the journal.
The Scientific Committee (SC) contributes, in collaboration with the EB, to ensuring the quality of the journal's scientific content. Its members participate in the evaluation process managed by the EB and are responsible for carrying out the assessment of the contents themselves. They can also suggest external experts for reading and evaluating submissions. The Editorial Board will then appoint them formally.
The SC’s missions are to review submissions to Transformations, suggest reviewers, and exchange with authors in the context of the reviewing process. The SC is not in charge of the operation of the journal, including finances, recruitment, and administration.
Regarding Authority, the Scientific Committee provides scholarly input on the quality of the submissions to Transformations (own review, commission of an external reviewer, interactions with the EB). The Scientific Committee does not have final responsibility for decisions but gives advice to the Editorial Board.
The SC consists of members with experience or knowledge in SSH, more specifically digitally-enabled Arts and Humanities. SC members come from diverse backgrounds, representing different scholarly cultures and disciplines. The SC is an independent body, to be consulted in scientific matters. Its members cannot hold other roles within Transformations.
SC members are appointed for a period of 4 years, and can be reappointed for new terms. Members of the Editorial Board may not be members of the Scientific Committee. Decisions are made by consensus and, if consensus cannot be reached, by majority vote.
The chair shall be appointed by the members of the SC. The chair of the SC acts as advisor to the Editorial Board.
There will be at least 2 virtual meetings per year, with the agendas distributed 2 weeks before meeting date, and the minutes distributed 2 weeks after the meeting date. Additional meetings to discuss specific issues might be arranged at shorter notice.
Outputs of the discussions of the Scientific Committee will be inputted to the Editorial Board.
There is no specific budget allocated for the work of the Scientific Committee. Members are expected to bear their own costs.
